Why now?

To sail your boat, you need people to look at the path you sailed, making sure you made all the waypoints and followed the charted course.

You also need people who look where you want to go, beyond the horizon, to chart the course leading to the port you are aiming to berth.

All this has worked for a long time and brought us to where we are right now.

But let's face it, things have changed. The sea has changed and will continue to change more rapidly and more unforeseen than you can even start to imagine.

Now what?

The only thing you can do is anticipate. People say now is as good time as any. But no. Now is where we go and where we came from, where the future and the past blend in the moment, now is anytime!

A foreword from our initiator,

It is 2018, Class 13 of the THNK's executive course for creative leadership, Im fully geared up for the first module; ready for an intense and thought provoking process for what I called 'the new consulting'. In the warm up presentation a slide appears with a basic concept how companies tend to respond to challenges from the outside world and from within. 'We respond to trends and patterns via our anticipating capacity…".

My brains, fuelled with 28 years of experience, wandered off. Anticipating capacity? I know this is an everyday desire, an everyday battle even. New model after new methodology after next organisational intervention, but does it feel like we are getting any closer?

The three other capacities in the model were daily operations (just solve it!), structures (complex transformations) and our companies' mental models (culture, who dares?). Those I worked on, accompanied by impressive people, using an impressive set of organisation interventions, methods and tools. I started doubting whether the answer was into further improvements in those crowded spaces, whether the answer might be in an unexplored open space called anticipation. Open space also sounds, feels, and lives as a good place for some fundamental improvements.

It's July 2020. My route to explore and envision a possible high impact answer had started. It is intellectually inspiring, an excellent trigger for enthousiastic conversations, and a call into actually doing it. Actually stepping in the actions towards a new capacity which we will all benefit from.

So, now here I am with the initiative in a tangible format. A combination of people inspired to help and enter the open space, with a diverse background bringing capabilities and experiences in a mix that secures inclusiveness, corporate understanding and creativity, around me. All with the open mindset of not holding the answers.

I live with the sole ambition to work with as many leaders and organisations possible. Jointly entering the interesting new open space positioned right between daily ops and our efforts around organized change.

These times require responding to incredibly open questions. That is why, that is why now.

So the next question is: Now what?

IS ANY TIME

How can organizations boost the realization of their short-term goals while at the same time power their longer-term ambitions? 

How can they cope with a multitude of internal and external distractions while doing so? 

How can they better (and faster) exploit new opportunities that pop up every day in a changing world?

And how can they live up to their true purpose? 

This challenging mix of questions is on the agenda for many leadership teams. And it is the domain of abundant professional advice and support. Nonetheless, many organizations are somewhat stuck.

That is where we come in.

We are _ntcpation.
A new impulse to help organizations deal with today's questions. We believe it is all about building organizations where:

People work together fluently and convincingly towards goals and strategies.

There is constant alertness to both internal and external trends and patterns with an ability to translate these to tangible actions. 

Potential blockers are identified and dealt with in a timely and effective manner.

All existing intelligence, energy and will to succeed of people is reinforced and used. 

Human skills and technological empowerment are connected to fully exploit the potential of digitization.

_ntcpation pays off. 
It is not a quick fix. It works best when there's a deep understanding of the true value drivers of the entrepreneurial model at hand. It turns costs into contributing investments. In doing so, it directs organisations effectively towards their strategy and purpose. And finally gets ‘time on our side’. 

We are aware that it is an ambitious promise. But we are also convinced that it pays off. 

Who we are.
We start as a condensed team. Each of us brings deep expertise and intense experience from a multitude of initiatives and programs, all aiming to raise an organisation’s performance. 


What ties us together is that we are all fascinated by new ways towards smarter decision making, faster and better results, activating people and technologies, and disciplined embedding of learnings into organisational cultures.

We believe it is all about connecting the dots and therefore developed an Anticipation Frame, integrating relevant building blocks.

Together we figure out:

  • What competences are needed and how should they work for the common purpose of anticipation? 
  • How do we ensure this anticipating capacity is well-connected with the organization’s ways of doing and formal management systems?
  • What tools can be used or developed to strengthen both individual competences and the added value of the mix?
  • How to enable the ultimate participation of people?

 

How we work:
We start with our Studio concept. We work with organisations, to handle a specific trend or item, from start to finish. The Studio will guide through the phases of Imagination, Activation and Cultivation. 

Our first focus is to be of help with those opportunities, issues, and quests for which it feels there is no easy fix. This could be for several reasons. The item might still be too unclear and too strategic, holding too many perspectives and disciplines. Or as a leader, one might feel like being personally called upon to be involved and not only for the first set of direction. 

Very practically, we start our conversations with the current items on the table, awaiting decision making. We jointly investigate important recent decisions and their current state of progress. And we most definitely will take on key (strategic) issues that have not yet been addressed. 

Our second more fundamental focus is to help our clients develop their own 'anticipating capacity'. Once a client is facilitated in our Studio, we will convert the Studio concept into our clients’ organization, building towards a network of connected Studio capacities.

Our Studio has a physical place, it can be run in hybrid mode and if needed fully digital. 

It is all about the organization we work with and their teams. The approach is aligned with how activation and cultivation will work best within each specific organization, building upon what is already there.

C_nvrsation believes in the power, passion and expertise of the people themselves to come with the best ideas and solutions for an organisation to thrive.

C_nvrsation is an essential tool in facilitating bottom up change, innovation and implementation.  New technologies and ways of working arrive at ever increasing speed and people and organisations have to anticipate trends and patterns and adjust their daily tasks to that. But often, we found that new solutions, new ways of working are designed outside the organisation's core. They are designed by the people who make the decisions or by external consultants, rather than the people who are facing daily reality. As a result, a ‘top down process’ where one often finds it hard to implement changes, while at the same time one finds it hard to accept these often one size fit’s nobody changes in our daily routines. 

C_nvrsation is a capability which helps organisations to empower their employees, design ideas and solutions and let them in this way be part of decisions. It’s an online platform which invites employees at all levels of organizations and allows them to participate in one large co-creation process inspired by the Socratic method: a digital conversation which enables a cooperative argumentative dialogue, based on asking and answering questions to stimulate critical thinking and to draw out ideas and underlying presuppositions and thus all being part of change.

Invitation to connect
As the world keeps developing, the capacity to anticipate is needed continuously. Therefore, our journey is open-ended.

And perhaps most importantly, _ntcpation is an initiative with an open invitation to connect. Our ambitions, and its true impact, can only come to life in our joint efforts and powerful participation.
